Hay all,

Just thought id share as i upgraded again today.

Took my X770 from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM.

No hassels at all fitted in , bios detected it all and windows does as well.

I know some one will probably jump in saying its a waste of time and money having 8gb but for the work im doing I do need as much ram as possible.

so thats the X9000 processor that rock told me wasent supported and 8GB Ram that they also said wasent supported working fine.

Cos the board doesent support 800MHz ram it under clocks it to 667Mhz, so in theory you dont need PC2 6400 but could get away with PC2 5300 which is loads cheeper.

All I did was upgrade to to the most recent bios and it all worked fine oh and im obviosly running Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate.

Next will probably be an GTX285M if I can find an MXM2.1 card. Dont see any reason why it wont work as Clevo told me the highest card they support in the 9800M GTX and the 280 and 285 is are both based on the same architecture just clocked a bit higher and possibly an SSD.

Wow, that's impressive stuff.
What graphics system did your machine start off with?
I'd be interested in upgrading mine but Rock did say that the very first models weren't compatible with the 8800/9800 GTX models. I wondered whether you had any insight about that.
How little can you get a 9800/285M GTX for if you shop around?
I feel it's finally time to upgrade to Windows 7 from XP.

Mine started out as a very base spec X770. T7600 chip , 2 gig of ram and an 8700GT.

The graphics is the only area I havent touched yet as I simply needed lots of processor power and ram for what im doing.

As far as ive been able to tell there is very little differences between the board revisions. The later ones are meant to have an extra fan power connector but thats the only differecne that i really know of.

The later versions did have a larger heatsink for use with the X7900 and X9000 processors but im using the origional T7600 one with no problems at all.

I was able to get hold of a GTX 285M but when it arrived it was the mxm3 version so a different connector, just gotta keep my eyes open for a mxm 2.1 card.

This website is worth checking out.

This shows the process of replacing the graphics.

Thank you very much for the info!
If you have success updating your graphics system do perhaps let us know on here. Moderation seems pretty relaxed now.

My unit has the T7700 and I think it's a wonderful processor. I dislike Intel but this CPU is quite something even 3 years on.
The 7950 isn't bad either. Considering I play a lot of modern shooters on 1920x1200 it really manages good settings and decent framerates on most titles, which is something, considering the age of the part's design.

I think renewing the entire machine just yet makes very little financial sense although next year I think I'll build a micro-ATX, DX11 box.
These enormous systems just disgust me really. I think a medium sized, simple, powerful machine is the best thing.

Hi yogibear. I've seached through your posts with keen interest as I've been considering upgrading my X770 too.

Do you have any guides/instructions how you upgraded your T7600 to the X9000 processor?

I'm in the process of buying 2x2GB memory sticks, and would love to know about upgrading the CPU. Many thanks

All I did was upgrade to the latest bios and swap the chips over.

I did lap the heatsink and reapply good thermal paste as I thought I was gonna have a problem with heat as I had the M570RU and not the M570RU-U with the larger heatsink.

However no problems heat wise when running stock speeds. Having the X9000 installed does open up the overclocking feature in the bios , simply allows the multiplyer incresed so you can run either 2.8 stock or 3.0 or 3.2. Mine got pretty hot abouve 2.8 as I do quite a bit of very cpu heavy stuff so stuck with 2.8.

This all worked for me but I take no responsibility if you brick you laptop.
